Making the most of the mild weather

It was unseasonably warm for mid-November as we weeded, planted and admired the wonderful views of Leeds.

We were excited to see that the broad beans sown four weeks ago are already 2 – 3” high.  Let’s hope the pigeons leave them alone.

We planted up onion sets, Senshyu white and Electric red, shallots Jermor and garlic Germidour.  In fact, the very ingredients for Yorkshire More’s Three Onion Chutney!  http://www.yorkshiremore.com/

November is a good month to plant garlic.  If you fancy growing your own, the cloves can be planted in seed trays or modules, kept out of the frost and planted out in the Spring.

We're still digging out our potatoes to take to the kitchens of the Rainbow Houses.

Rainbow Allotment Project Garden Party

On Sunday 28th June, we held a traditional garden party to raise awareness and funds for our allotment.

We were very fortunate in that Angela and Sefton Copitch generously offered us their beautiful garden, we were blessed with good weather and received a huge amount of support from friends and fellow gardeners which created that party atmosphere.
We are delighted to report that our garden party was both a financial and social success.  Very many thanks to all involved.

Early harvest

We have harvested plentiful amounts of broad beans, red and white onions, shallots, strawberries and rhubarb today.

Win some, lose some ...

The sun and rain have made everything grow including the weeds.  Well not quite everything as the peas and beans have been attacked and we are blaming the wood pigeons.
